Abstract:
By now, all the SQL world should have heard about the R language, especially since Microsoft is committed to integrate it into their data platform products. So you installed the R base system and the IDE of your choice. But it's like buying a new car - nobody is content with the standard. You know there are packages to get you started with analysis and visualisation, but which ones? A bundle called The Tidyverse comes in handy, consisting of packages mostly (co-)authored by Hadley Wickham, one of the brightest minds in the R ecosystem. We will take a look at the most popular Tidyverse ingredients like ggplot2, dplyr and readr, and we'll have lots of code demos on real world examples.

Abstract:
Clustered Index zombies come out of their graves to make the peace loving Heaps to one of them in your databases. Try to attack them or find a fair way to make them living together in peaceful harmony. If you ask experts about using a clustered index you will in most cases hear the following statements: Yes, you need a narrow and contiguous clustered index for your table for good performance. Last but not least Microsoft Azure Databases requires clustered indexes but there might be situations when workloads and queries will suffer from wrong implemented clustered indexes. Watch the demos which show in an impressive way that clustered indexes are not always the best choice. Build your clustered indexes wise or - as the demos will show - forgo for it for a better scaling. Become aware of the pros and cons of Clustered Indexes and make a wise decision when to use clustered indexes and the correct key attributes for it.

Abstract:
In times past, Data Science was only for those elite few with a rare combination of skills including advanced knowledge of statistics. Microsoft has been making sure that everyone can participate in the data revolution by giving people access to predictive API’s, in-database advanced analytics and drag-and-drop predictive experiments. All thanks to SQL Server 2016 and the Cortana Intelligence Suite in Azure. These advances have given people with less knowledge of statistics and programming the ability to become what Gartner calls citizen data scientists. Should we be worried about fools-with-tools or should we embrace the democratization of data science as the golden age of data? Using a combination of theory and demo’s, we explore Microsoft’s solutions to ensure democratization of data science and the possible dangers that lurk below the surface.

Abstract:
Was wird unterstützt, was nicht?

Abstract:
Machine Learning is a subfield of computer science concerned with systems that learn from data. So this isn’t about systems that follow explicitly programmed instructions, but rather about systems that find patterns and trends within datasets, and use them to deliver insight and predictions. In this session, you will learn how an Azure Machine Learning solution comes to life: From the creation of a workspace, to the preparation of data, to experimentation with Machine Learning algorithms, and then finally to the integration and embedding of predictive insights into applications. This session has been specifically designed to describe Machine Learning fundamentals, and to help enable and inspire existing data professionals taking their first steps to leverage cloud-based predictive models delivered with Azure Machine Learning. It is guaranteed to thrill you with potential, and excite you with the relative ease by which it can be accomplished.
Speaker(s): Peter Myers,
Abstract:
In the times of data explosion, a dazzling array of information streams and unbelievable possibilities of different techniques to manage data via the Microsoft Data Platform, this session asks the question: what about data curation? We dive into the requirements of modern data governance and curation and show in examples, what the Microsoft Data Platform has to offer: Can SQL Server Master Data Service (MDS), Data Quality Services (DQS) and Integration Service (SSIS) help? Which options offers the Azure Data Catalog and how does the Microsoft Common Data Service come into play? We also look at the potential of the new integrated languages in the Data Platform like R or U-SQL. At the end of this session you will have an overview and understanding of the possibilities, that Microsoft Data Platform offers you to address your data curation requirements.
Speaker(s): Oliver Engels,
Abstract:
Microsoft has introduced native capability to the database engine around masking sensitive data and restricting access at the row level. Allowing us new options for building more secure Data Platform solutions. However, it is important to understand the differences from our previous options in order to be able to gain the most benefit from these new technologies. Join me as we look in more detail at how we can engineer these features into our Data Platform solutions. Starting with identifying the problems they are trying to solve, through their core architecture and on to potential design patterns for their use. As with any security technology solution, there are a number of ways to use these features. However, as with all security features there are gaps in coverage, using them effectively in a layered approach is vital. After this session, you will be in a position to start looking at whether your systems can benefit from these features.

Abstract:
Hadoop in diversen Varianten (klar), DocumentDB etc. etc.

Abstract:
Speaker(s): Stefan Kirner,
Abstract:
Speaker(s): Alexander Karl,
Abstract:
You know how to use Power BI or Power Query to load data from different sources but you want to go further than limiting yourself to the UI? You’re tired to look at auto-generated code and don’t understand the key concepts of this powerful ETL language? Then, this session is for you. During 60 minutes, you’ll learn how to write code in this functional language. Starting with syntax, primitive and structured values; we’ll quickly jump to the creation of expressions and functions and the usage of some recurrent patterns. This session contains many demos and real-life use-cases that you’ll be able to transpose to your own projects.
Speaker(s): Cédric Charlier,
Abstract:

Abstract:
The cloud is now a fact of business life, and adoption is growing fast. However, Microsoft has invested heavily in SQL Server 2016. So, the question you need to ask is: What is the best way to extract the highest value from both your on-premises data platform and the cloud? SQL Server 2016 is architected to work smoothly with the cloud in a hybrid environment, helping you overcome complexity while optimize your existing assets. This session will showcase the synergy between features in SQL Server and the cloud by demonstrating a real-world application scenario, highlighting a solution that lets you take advantage of the cloud in your terms without impacting your existing end-user applications. Incorporating the best-of-class features in SQL Server 2016 as well as data platform features in the cloud, including SQL DW. Session and demos will show you how to decrease costs and deployment times, increase customer service, and leverage the hybrid capabilities of SQL Server 2016 smoothly.

Einfach mal reinschauen ...

Abstract:
Have you ever considered a situation where Columnstore Index can be quite the opposite of what one expect from it? A slow, wasteful source of painfully slow queries, lagging the performance, consuming irresponsible amount of resources ... What about some less known limitations for building Columnstore Indexes ? The ones that will bite you suddenly in the middle of the project - when you do not expect it at all ? Let me show you how to achieve that ;)

Abstract:
Speaker(s): Alexander Klein,
Abstract:
R is THE language for Data Scientists. Therefore, it is no surprise that Microsoft also integrated it into the latest release of PowerBI. In this session I will show how to use an existing R-script in PowerBI, combine it with other data sources and leverage other native features of PowerBI like cross-filtering, highlighting, etc. The final step is then to publish the workbook to the PowerBI web service, schedule refreshes and share it with your colleagues.

Abstract:
DBAs and sysadmins never have time for the fun stuff. We are always restoring a DB for a dev or setting up a new instance for that new BI project. What if I told you that you can make all that time consuming busy-work disappear? In this session we will learn to embrace the power in PowerShell to allow us to sit back and relax..... or rather focus on the real work of designing better, faster systems instead of fighting for short time slots when we can do actual work. Along the way we will see that we can benefit from the wide world of PowerShell expertise and avoid re-inventing the wheel, again!

„Next, Next, Next…
